Foldable iPhone: The Next Level of Phone Protection Against Drops

New Delhi: According to reports, tech giant Apple is developing a new technology that would allow flexible-screen iPhones and iPads to detect drops and automatically fold up on the way to the ground to minimize damage. 'Self-Retracting Display Device And Methods For Safeguarding Screen Using Drop Detection' is the name of the tech giant's latest patent application, according to AppleInsider.
No matter how the device folds at the hinge or whether a screen may be removed from a base chassis, the tech giant claims that the display itself may opt to separate. Instead of using a potentially brittle hinge, the display can be detached or folded in a way that protects the screen.
According to the patent application, mobile devices having foldable and rollable displays can use a sensor to detect vertical acceleration (such as acceleration with respect to the ground) to ascertain whether the device has been dropped.
The foldable device can at least partially retract if the sensor determines that the mobile device has been dropped in order to protect the fragile display from hitting the ground, it was claimed. As a result, there are only two options left: either retract the screen or release it.
Apple stated in the application that "(the process) can include activating a release mechanism for a hinged connection between a first display and a second display of the electronic device when the vertical acceleration exceeds a predetermined threshold, wherein the activating reduces an alertness level."angle below a threshold angle between the first and second displays.
